(Updated 5:08 p.m., Feb. 10) Three people  were seriously injured after figuring in a smashup involving four heavy vehicles in Quezon province Monday.

The smashup occurred at 2 p.m. along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Doña Aurora in Calauag town in Quezon, GMA News stringer Peewee Bacuño reported.

Among the injured was the driver of a "Raymond" bus that was involved in the smashup. Also involved were a bus and two trucks.

While an initial report by the Philippine National Police's Highway Patrol Group in Camarines Norte - the first responders to the incident - showed the bus driver died, the Calauag town police's report showed the driver was alive but injured.

The initial HPG report had noted the driver was not breathing at the time.

But as of Tuesday, the Calauag police said the three injured were in stable condition.

An initial investigation by the Calauag police showed both the "Raymond" and "New Richard Tours" buses had just overtaken other vehicles before colliding.

On Monday, rescue teams needed an hour to extricate the driver of the "Raymond" bus from the wreck. The accident also slowed traffic in the area.

An initial investigation showed the "Raymond" bus was heading for Manila while the "New Richard Tours" bus was heading for Legazpi City in Albay from Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, the drivers of two trucks were in critical condition after figuring in a collision. Both trucks were heading for Bicol from Manila.

The two drivers were brought to a hospital in Calauag for treatment.
