Ex-inmate shot dead in Davao City; cops check drug link

An 18-year-old previously jailed for a drug-related offense was shot dead in Davao City on Tuesday night.

Police are verifying leads that could indicate the motive for the killing of Ryan Abrea, GMA Davao reported Wednesday.

The incident occurred along Aquino Street, with the victim sustaining at least four gunshot wounds to the head and body.

An initial investigation showed the assailant used a cal-.45 pistol to kill Abrea.

"Ang fatal natin doon sa ulo, kasi through and through yun. All in all, meron siyang four gunshot wounds," said Scene of the Crime Operations team leader Senior Inspector Nolan Genova.

The victim's mother Jeanette said that a day before the shooting, her son was punched by one of his friends.

An initial record check showed the victim may have been involved in illegal drugs.

"Base sa mga nakuha naming information mula sa mga kapitbahay niya at mismong nobya niya, dati na raw siyang na-rehab. So ibig sabihin kung galing sa rehab, siguro dahil sa drugs," said Sta. Ana police chief investigator Inspector Ireneo Brillantes Jr. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
