Amid the prospect of brownouts becoming frequent during the hot months, a Church group over the weekend reminded the public to conserve electricity.

The Association of Major Religious Superior of the Philippines also said it hopes the government has done its part to at least minimize the effects of low power supply.

In an interview on Church-run Radyo Veritas, AMRSP executive secretary Fr. Dexter Toledo said citizens must also do their part in helping solve the impending crisis by limiting their electrical consumption.

“It’s nothing new. We’ve always confronted this energy problem. It means that, by now, the government has already come out with a positive solution,” he added.

Excerpts of the interview were posted on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines news site.

The CBCP cited earlier reports indicating the Malampaya natural gas facility in Palawan will undergo a 30-day maintenance shutdown from March 15 to April 14.

Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said an unexpected shutdown of even just one power plant could cause brownouts in the Luzon grid. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
