WATCH: Work starts on flood control project in Pangasinan

While the dry season is still very much around, the Department of Public Works and Highways is rushing to finish drainage and flood control works before the coming of the rain months.

In Pangasinan, the DPWH has set aside nearly P800 million for flood control projects, GMA Dagupan's Jette Arcellana reported on "24 Oras North Central Luzon."

But some residents are worried the ongoing work could lead to accidents, as some people to fall into the drainage canals, especially if it is dark, while digging up stops at night.

"Naabala nga, ang dami daming naaabala pag gabi pag wala kaming ilaw, kawawa kami. Gabi sana gawin nila para madalian na," said resident Gliceria Gaupo.

Contractors said they are trying to finish the work before the rainy months arrive - likely in June.

Drainage canals are two meters deep and one meter wide, the report said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
