Poll rival eyed in Pangasinan vice mayor's slay

A political rival in the May 14 polls most likely carried out the murder of an outgoing vice mayor of Pangasinan last Wednesday, initial police investigation showed. Radio station dzBB reported that Pangasinan police director Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez disclosed this after interviewing kin and the driver of slain San Manuel town vice mayor Bonie Apilado. Motorcycle-riding men shot at Apilado and his bodyguard-driver Ricardo Clemente shortly past noon Wednesday in Urdaneta City in Pangasinan. Apilado died hours later at the Sacred Heart Hospital in the same city. Doctors, meanwhile, declared Clemente in safe condition. Nerez said the vice mayor sustained four gunshot wounds from a .45-cal. pistol in different parts of the body. Citing initial information he got from interviewing witnesses, Nerez said Apilado's likely killers had orders from a political rival against whom he ran but lost last May 14. Nerez also noted that Clemente told him he felt someone tailing them since last week. - GMANews.TV
