Flood-prone roads in barangay of Calasiao town ‘raised’ in time for rainy season

Will residents of a flood-prone barangay in Calasiao, Pangasinan, finally get relief from floods when the rainy season comes?

The town government and the Department of Public Works and Highways are working full time to finish elevating the roads in Barangay Talibaew by two meters by July.

As of this week, the project - with an P18-million fund from the Department of Public Works and Highways - is 70 to 80 percent finished and is due for completion by July, GMA Dagupan's Jasmin Gabriel reported on "24 Oras North Central Luzon."

In past years, Barangay Talibaew's residents have had to deal with floods that forced them to flee to the second floors of their houses or to evacuation centers.

Several residents have also had to use bancas to get around when the floods come.

"Malaking tulong sa amin ito," said one resident of the project. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
