Cebu media personality Bobby Nalzaro posts P10k bail for libel case
Cebu tri-media personality Bobby Nalzaro on Thursday secured his temporary liberty in a libel case lodged against him by former city mayor Tomas Osmeña by posting P10,000 bail before a Cebu City court.
The complaint was one of 28 lodged by Osmeña against Nalzaro but the 27 others had been dismissed, GMA Cebu's Vic Serna reported.
Police escorted Nalzaro to the court. Nalzaro had surrendered to police after the court issued a warrant for his arrest for libel, which stemmed from Nalzaro's newspaper column.
Nalzaro is the anchor of GMA Network's "24 Oras Central Visayas," and is chief operating officer of RGMA-dySS.
He said he is prepared to face the libel charges lodged by the mayor.
At the court, Nalzaro was met by his lawyers Joan Baron, Eddie Barita, Barbara Ann Ocaba, and Ely Espinosa.
Supporters and friends waited for him at the Quimonda Building. They included Dr. Jay Ruiz, Kapitan Julie Flores, and spiritual adviser Fr. Mark Barniso.
After posting the P10,000 bail at the Office of the Clerk of Court, Nalzaro was brought to the sala of the Regional Trial Court 5.
The court issued a release order for Nalzaro at 11:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, Nalzaro's lawyers submitted to the court a motion to defer his arraignment. His lawyers earlier filed a petition with the Department of Justice to review the case. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
