Typhoon Ineng showers Baguio with more than two weeks' worth of rain in two days

Typhoon Ineng brought 503 millimeters of rain to Baguio City in the past two days, causing widespread flooding there, a report from GMA's “Balitanghali” said Saturday.

This is more than three times the rainfall threshold of the Cordillera Administrative Region, which stands at 150 mm. It was earlier reported that rainfall in Baguio City already reached 233 mm in just 24 hours.

The report said the amount of rainfall experienced in Baguio City was also more than half the normal rainfall in the region for the month of August pegged at 905 millimeters.

This means two weeks' worth of rain fell on Baguio in just two days.

Other areas that recorded significant rainfall from the period of August 20 to 22 were:

  • Aparri, Cagayan - 385 mm
  • Laoag, Ilocos Norte - 389 mm
  • Calayan, Cagayan - 348 mm
  • Iba, Zambales - 215 mm

Typhoon Ineng has claimed four more lives due to landslides in the Benguet province bringing the total number of deaths to nine. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday morning. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
