Although the weather in Bulacan has improved on Monday, heavy rains earlier in the day that coincided with the high tide submerged parts of the province in floods.
The flooding caused traffic in Marilao, particularly along McArthur Highway, where motorists made use of improvised floaters to protect their motorcycles from the knee-deep water, a report in GMA News TV's Balitanghali said.
The residents who navigate the floaters through the flood charge P100 per motorcycle, but the drivers find this preferable over the cost of repairing damages that their motorcycles could incur if submerged in the water.
The floods in Marilao has already partially receded. In Roxas Street in Poblacion Dos, the previously waist-deep water was lowered to thigh-deep floods.
Other areas in Bulacan also experienced heavy rain, like Malolos, Paombong, and Plaridel, causing classes in these areas to be suspended.
Many of the residents were able to prepare for the flood, having dealt with frequent flooding since Tropical Storm Ondoy devastated the country in 2009, the report added.
They admitted that the problem probably stemmed from the trash that blocks the drainage system, on top of the heightened river bed. — Jessica Bartolome/RSJ, GMA News
