BFAR orders fishing ban on tamban in Zamboanga

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) imposed a ban on Tuesday on the fishing of "tamban" which are made into sardines in the Zamboanga region, a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.

The BFAR has sent two patrol vessels to monitor the seas and apprehend commercial fishing vessels that may violate the ban.

The fishing ban will last until March 1, 2016.

The ban was imposed to ensure the supply of tamban in the region.

BFAR said the ban is for commercial fishing vessels, not for small fishermen.

It also gave the assurance that the region has enough supply of fish for sardines, the report said. —KG, GMA News
