4 dead in Eastern Samar highway collision

Four people were killed in a highway accident involving three vehicles in Balangiga, Eastern Samar on Saturday afternoon.

The Eastern Samar Provincial Police Office identified one of the fatalities as tricycle driver Renato Brieva, 52, of Maydolong, Eastern Samar.

The provincial police said the accident happened along the Maharlika Highway in sitio Kamaktas, Barangay San Miguel at around 1:30 p.m.

It said that a Toyota Avanza driven by Jelson Quebec of Tacloban City swerved and entered the opposite lane hitting two tricycles, one of which was driven by Brieva.

Brieva and his three passengers, who have yet to be identified by the police, were declared dead at the Alvino Duran Memorial Hospital in Balangiga.

Two more passengers of Brieva's tricycle were hurt in the accident.

Quebec has been detained at the Balingaga Municipal Police Station. —ALG, GMA News
