A tricycle driver from Muntinlupa City claimed that a man hired them to kill a mother and her one-year-old son in Sta. Rosa, Laguna early this month.

A Balitanghali report on Saturday said that the confessed killer cited jealousy in his extra-judicial confession as the reason behind the killings.

The police, however, declined to provide more details of the motive behind the killings.

GMA News' John Consulta reported that the suspect, who surrendered to barangay officials in Muntinlupa City on Friday, told the police that he and his cohort were paid P30,000 each by another person to kill Pearl Helene Sta. Ana and her son Denzel.

Police said that the suspect who surrendered was the person on the right, as seen in a CCTV footage of the two suspects before the killings last March 2.

The police has declined to identify or give a hint of the mastermind's identify.

Superintendent Reynaldo Maclang, chief of the Sta. Rosa police, could not be reached for comment as of posting time.

In the Balitanghali report, the suspect confirmed reports that they gained entry into the victims' house by posing as Internet repairmen for Globe Telecom.

After showing the job order to the woman, the suspect said his companion pretended he was inspecting the modem.

The suspect confessed that he attacked the woman and tied and sealed her mouth.

The report said that the suspect then went up to the house's second floor and search it, as instructed by the mastermind, to make it look like the motive for the attack was burglary.

The suspect said that when he returned to the ground floor, his companion has already undressed the woman and killed the baby using a hammer.

The report added that according to the suspect, the mastermind offered them the job last February.

It said that the suspect and his companion are tricycle drivers in Muntinlupa City.

A friend of the two suspects, who claimed that he was also hired by the mastermind for the job, is helping the police in its investigation.

Maclang said manhunt operations are ongoing to arrest the second suspect.

Sta. Rosa Mayor Arlene Arcillas earlier offered a P200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. —Virgil Lopez/ALG, GMA News
