Tanauan adopts wedding-themed shame parade this June
This June, Tanauan town's shame parade for drug pushers took the form of a wedding procession.
Last May—flowers' month— the walk of shame campaign by Mayor Antonio Halili adopted the Santacruzan parade.
The wedding-themed shame parade in Batangas' Tanauan City pushed through with the females among the seven suspected drug pushers being paired off with their male counterparts for the mock wedding procession towards an altar, Mariz Umali said on "Balitanghali."
Halili said he is doing this to rid his city of criminals, but promised he would stop the practice if it proved to be ineffective.
"Ako, naniniwala rin naman na yung ginagawa ko ay para sa bayan ko, it's for my city," he said.
"Sabi ko I'll probably just do it for 3 or 4 months, 'pag nakita ko na hindi effective deterrent eh 'di titigilan natin," Halili added.
However, the shame campaign has drawn criticisms from the Commission on Human Rights, considering the practice as a human-rights violation, and that it against the spirit of the anti-torture law. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/LBG, GMA News
