Authorities probe CamSur baby’s death hours after vaccination
Police and health authorities are investigating the cause of death of a one-year old baby girl in Camarines Sur, who allegedly died hours after getting vaccinated.
GMA News stringer Michael Biando on Unang Balita reported that the victim was from Goa town.
Biando quoted the baby's father as saying that he brought his daughter a health center to get a free shot of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine.
But hours after the MMR shot, the baby's arm became swollen and she had difficulty breathing.
They rushed the baby to a municipal hospital but her condition became worse, the father claimed.
He said they brought the baby to the Bicol Medical Center but she was pronounced dead by attending physicians shortly after arrival.
The baby's father suspected the vaccine might have been the cause of death.
But a municipal health officer said the case still needs to be verified, and that the baby's remains should be subjected to an autopsy.
A police probe is ongoing, even as the Department of Health is also planning to conduct a separate investigation into the case, the report said. — LBG, GMA News
