More than 100 residents in Polomolok, South Cotabato have been evacuated to safety due to a sinkhole that appeared following a heavy rainfall on July 27.

The residents are currently staying in a school, a report on GMA News TV's "News To Go" said Tuesday.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) said the sinkhole is about three to five meters wide and has a depth of 40 feet.

MGB personnel continue to monitor the sinkhole, which is common in areas where the rock underneath is made of limestone or salt bed, according to the United States Geological Survey.  — Virgil Lopez/VVP, GMA News
