A bodyguard of suspected drug lord, Kerwin Espinosa, on Monday surrendered his firearm to the police in Albuera, Leyte.

Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, chief of the Albuera Police Station, said Jesus Tulin Jr. alias Loloy brought his .45 Colt pistol.

Tulin, meanwhile, declined to face the media.

It was not clear if the Albuera police placed Tulin under its custody after surrendering his firearm.

Tulin was an alleged bodyguard of Espinosa, son of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., who is now under the custody of the local police.

There are reports that Kerwin has slipped out of the country.

Mayor Espinosa surrendered to Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa earlier this month after President Rodrigo Duterte issued a "shoot on sight order" against him and his son.

The younger Espinosa allegedly has links with erring police officials who are also involved in the illegal drug trade. —report from Ronnie Roa/ALG, GMA News
