Region 9’s top drug personality killed in Zamboanga del Sur

Joint operatives from the military and police have killed the top drug personality in Region 9 in an operation in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur on Sunday afternoon, a report on Unang Balita on Monday said.

The Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office said the joint team killed Norhan Ambol in one of his hideouts in Sitio Balaisan, Barangay East Magpulao in Dinas town at around 1:25 p.m.

The provincial police said it assembled a team, joined by members of the Philippine Army, after receiving a tip that Ambol was spotted in the hideout.

It said Ambol and other members of his group fired at the approaching lawmen, which resulted in a brief firefight.

Ambol's men scampered after they were overpowered by the joint police and military teams.

The provincial police said that aside from being the top drug personality in the region, Ambol was also the leader of a criminal gang involved in gun-for-hire activities and extortion. —report from Aude Hampong/ALG/KG, GMA News
