Newborn baby abandoned in Laguna mall dies

A newborn child passed away after being abandoned inside a comfort room in a mall in Calamba, Laguna.

A report by Mark Salazar in Balitanghali on Tuesday said that the baby was discovered in a trash bin inside the restroom over the weekend.

The mother's placenta was still attached to the child, and the umbilical cord was still wrapped around the baby's neck.

A janitor at the mall discovered the newborn on Saturday night and reported it to the authorities.

Barangay rescuers and police officers that arrived at the scene noticed that the baby still had a pulse and rushed it to a police mobile to be brought to the nearest hospital.

However, the infant died.

Police are now reviewing the mall's CCTV footage to track down the mother. —Jessica Bartolome/KG, GMA News
