An off-duty police officer was killed by an unidentified gunman in Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur on Saturday evening.

Quoting authorities, GMA News stringer Aude Hampong identified the victim as PO1 Ferdinand Alino Jr, 37, who was assigned at the Josefina Municipal Police Station.

An initial investigation by the Pagadian City Police Station showed that Alino was sitting on his parked motorcycle in front of a drugstore at the corner of Benigno Aquino Street and Rizal Avenue when the lone gunman approached and shot him eight times.

Authorities said that the suspect immediately ran towards a waiting motorcycle and fled heading for Cabrera Street in Barangay Gatas.

Anilo was rushed to the Pagadian City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Police recovered eight bullet casings and a caliber .45 handgun believed to be of the assailant.

Police are still determining  the motive for Anilo's slay, but are not discounting the possibility that the attack was related to his lending business.  —Joseph Tristan Roxas/LBG, GMA News
