Roads closed in Region VIII, V, IV-A and CAR due to Typhoon Nina, previous typhoons

Some roads are closed in Regions VIII, V, IV-A and CAR due to landslides and road hazards brought on by Typhoon Nina and previous extreme weather conditions, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) wrote in its latest update on Monday.

Clearing operations are underway in Catanduanes in Region V for fallen trees and utility posts along the Catanduanes Circumferential Road, Juction Bato-Baras Road, Baras-Gigmoto-Viga Road, and Jct. Catanduanes Cir Rd-Panganiban-Sabloyon Road.

Fallen boundary markers, trees, and debris are also being cleared from Daang Maharlika Highway, Naga City/Milaor Brdy. Road; Tigaon-Goa-Lagonoy-Caramoan Road; Pili-Tigaon-Albay Bdry. Road; and Daang Maharlika Highway, along K0460, Sta. Teresita, Baao in Camarines Sur.

Wright-Taft-Borongan Road, K0858+150 in Brgy. Fatima, Hinabangan, Samar was also declared hardly passable in Region VIII due to a major roadslip. Motorists were advised to take the San Juanico-Basey-Marabut Road instead.

Damage from previous typhoons and continuous monsoon rains also closed down parts of Abra-Cervantes Road in Abra; sections of Balbalan-Pinukpuk Road and Tabuk-Banaue Road in Lower Kalinga; and parts of Lubuagan-Batong Buhay Road in Upper Kalinga in CAR.

Parts of Quezon's Marikina-Infanta Road in Region IV-A remain closed due to continuous rain by easterlies and Typhoon Nona.

Barricades and warning signs were used to indicate road closure for safety reasons along the Rizal Avenue Extension in Tacloban City, Region VIII.

Typhoon Nina weakened into a tropical storm from a typhoon on its way out of the country on Tuesday. All tropical cyclone warnings have been lifted. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
