Five people were injured when the van they were riding flipped and rolled over after being hit by a speeding SUV on a highway in Barangay Bobon, Burgos, Ilocos Norte late Friday.

Citing initial police information, a GMA News report said that the SUV was traveling north when its driver suddenly lost control of the wheels and hit the oncoming van.

The force of the impact knocked the van down and sent it rolling over on the road.   Jamie Garcia, the van's driver, was among the wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, the SUV crashed head-on into a fence, wrecking its front part. Luckily, the driver, Norman Sagucio, and his wife only sustained bruises.

An initial police investigation showed that Sagucio lost control of the SUV due to strong winds and the wet, slippery road after an earlier heavy rain.

All the victims, who were earlier rushed to a hospital, have been released after treatment of their minor injuries, the police said.
