A former mayor of a city in Agusan del Norte is facing graft and malversation charges for charging over P362,000 of his and his wife's personal expenses to local government funds for more than three years.

The Office of the Ombudsman charged former Cabadbaran City mayor Dale Corvera of one count of graft and one count of malversation for the illegal reimbursement of his and his wife's personal expenses.

According to the charge sheet, Corvera charged personal expenses to local government funds from May 5, 2011 to June 26, 2014.

Among the items which the former mayor claimed reimbursements for were expenses related to their attending an event of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in Manila, and meals, hotel accommodation, air fare and other transportation expenses incurred in Cebu City.

The Ombudsman has recommended P30,000 bail for the graft case and P40,000 bail for the malversation charge. — Xianne Arcangel/BM, GMA News
