Magnitude 4.9 aftershock hit Surigao City
A magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck Surigao City late Saturday afternoon, several hours after a strong quake that left at least six people dead.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake struck at 5:11 p.m., southwest of Surigao City.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of two kilometers.
It was felt strongest at Intensity 5 in Surigao City. It was also felt in San Ricardo, Southern Leyte at Intensity 3 and in Gingoog City at Intensity 2.
Phivolcs said the quake was an aftershock of a magnitude-6.7 tremor that hit on Friday night, which killed six people and injured more than 200 others.
Five of the fatalities were residents of Surigao City.
Phivolcs earlier reported that it has recorded more than 80 aftershocks after the Friday night earthquake. —ALG, GMA News
