Blast hits NGCP tower in Cotabato, causes no major damage

An explosion rocked a tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines in Barangay Kayaga in Kabacan, Cotabato on Wednesday evening, but it caused no major damage to the facility, the NGCP said.

In a post on its Facebook account, the NGCP said the blasting of Tower 138, serving the Kibawe-Kabacan Line, was the first in 2017.

"This is the first [attack] on an NGCP tower this year. Fortunately, there was no major damage [inflicted] on the tower," NGCP said.

The NGCP assured the public that inspection and repair will follow after the area has been secured from the attackers.

It said that the incident will certainly result in power service interruptions in areas serviced by the line.

NGCP appealed to law-enforcement authorities, the military, and concerned government agencies to help NGCP identify the perpetrators of the attack.

In October 2015, a blast toppled an NGCP tower in Pikit, North Cotabato, in an attack believed to be staged by members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
