Alleged mastermind in 'Rent-tangay' scam nabbed in Laguna
The alleged mastermind of the so-called car rental or "rent-tangay" scam, Rafaela Anunciacion, was arrested in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on Thursday evening, according to a report by GMA News' Mav Gonzales on "Saksi."
The suspect was later brought to Camp Vicente Lim, where some of the victims started to flock.
"Kulang pa 'yung pagkulong kay Ela, sobrang dami niyang naapektuhan or nasira," one victim, who asked not to be identified, said.
She has not released a statement as of posting.
Anunciacion already faced a complainant before the Highway Patrol Group in Canlubang, Laguna but was not detained since there was no arrest warrant issued against her.
The syndicate, which victimized over 500 persons, allegedly carried out the scheme by giving "fraudulent promises" of rental income.
The vehicle owners later found that their vehicles were either mortgaged or sold to different people without their knowledge and consent.
The scheme also reportedly gives incentives to car owners for successfully enticing another car owner to join the investment scam.
Authorities earlier nabbed Tychicus Historillo Nambio, currently detained at the Biñan Police headquarters. An immigration lookout bulletin has been issued against him. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BAP, GMA News
