Fire destroys 10 classrooms in Cagayan de Oro City
A fire of still undetermined origin destroyed 10 classrooms at a school in Cagayan de Oro City in the afternoon of Good Friday, a report said.
GMA News' stringer Michael Tolang reported that the fire started from the school canteen of the West City Central School in the city's Barangay Carmern.
The fire that started at past 3 p.m. completely destroyed 10 classrooms before it was put out at 4 p.m., fire investigators said.
Tolang quoted Senior Fire Officer 1 Dennis Dalis as saying that the fire reached the 3rd alarm, leaving damage to property pegged at P1.5 million.
Also, he said that an initial investigation showed that the fire started from the canteen on the first floor of the Grade VI building and quickly spread onto the second floor and destroyed the classrooms.
All the chairs, books, and other education materials in the fire-hit classrooms were completely destroyed, some teachers said.
Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire. —LBG, GMA News
