Cops seize high-powered firearms from barangay exec in Calamba

Police seized high-powered firearms from a barangay councilor in Calamba, Laguna, a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday said.

Armed with a search warrant, authorities entered Apolinario Alcantara's house and his hardware store.

A brief tension occurred between the policemen and Apolinario. However the latter eventually surrendered to the police.

Authorities recovered various firearms which include an M16 rifle and ammunition.

Alcantara, for his part, insisted that the firearms were licensed and some were only pawned to him.

Alcantara is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KG, GMA News
