Davao City under lock down, says mayor
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has announced that the city is under a lock down following the declaration of martial law by President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday.
In a press conference, she said the city is under red alert and that a more strict inspection will be made at the check points within the city.
"Gina-advise namo tong gikan sa gawas kung wala silay important things diri sa sulod sa Davao city, dili na lang sila mobyahe sa Davao City. Kay ma-hassle sila sa check point nato, which will conduct more extensive and thorough search of vehicles and personalities," she said.
"Kung dili lang importante ang byahe sa Davao city, dili na lang sila mobyahe sa Davao city," she added.
Duterte-Carpio, the President's daughter, said she agrees with the implementation of martial law in southern Philippines.
"I think it is appropriate sa atoang panahon karon. In view of the problems that we have recently. Sa insurgency, sa rebellion, and this time around sa terrorism," she said.
The mayor advised the people to be prudent in planning daily activities and to just remain at home.
She said they expect an augmentation of security forces, stricter inspection in check points, and in port areas.
Security in Davao City will be especially enforced, she added, "especially in Davao because this is the hometown of our President." — BAP, GMA News
