14 Jolo inmates escape, 3 killed in pursuit ops —police official
Fourteen inmates of the Jolo Municipal Police Station facility in Sulu province broke out from their cells early Sunday morning, a police official said, adding that three of the escapees were killed in a pursuit operation.
DzBB's Manny Vargas quoted Sulu Provincial Police director Senior Superintendent Mario Buyuccan as saying that the breakout took place at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday.
Buyuccan added that during the initial pursuit operation three of the 14 escapees were killed and one was wounded, leaving the police with 10 others at large.
Buyuccan said that 24 other inmates tried but failed to slip away after jail guards were able to stop them.
The ten still at large have been identified as:
- Makrim J. Habbisi
- Alsimar A. Basali
- Nasir S. Maldam
- Albin A. Alibasa
- Julhaber H. Sariol
- Benjie L. Pandoga
- Mustafa A. Sarapuddin
- Haber S. Kasim
- Benjamine Baker
- Tano W. Hadjula
According to a report on 24 Oras Weekend, six of the 10 are suspected members of Abu Sayyaf.
The three escapees killed were identified as
- Julbig Alinjani
- Budda Basali
- Midzfar A. Sabli
The 14th escapee, Gummi J. Maimbung, was wounded in the incident.
Meanwhile, Vargas said Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police head Chief Superintendent Reuben Sindac has confirmed the jailbreak. —LBG/BM, GMA News
