Barangay captain shot dead outside home in Lucena City

A lone gunman killed a barangay captain in front of his house in Lucena City, Quezon province on Tuesday morning.

Police identified the victim as Eduarda Beriña, chairman of Barangay Ibabang Iyam.

Investigators said the victim had just left her home to report for work when the gunman shot her at around 6:45 a.m.

The Lucena City Police Station received a call about the killing almost an hour later.

Authorities said Iyam, 50, suffered a gunshot wound in the head.
