Suspect in killing of mother, daughter in Cavite surrenders
The suspect in the killing of a mother and daughter in General Trias, Cavite surrendered to Eastern Samar police Thursday morning.
Initial police report showed the suspect identified as Ruel Cabatingan, 36, an overseas Filipino worker, and resident of Miranda Street, Imus, Cavite, went to the Eastern Samar Provincial Police Office around 7:30 a.m. on December 28.
The suspect confessed to the killing of Ruby Gamos and Shaniah Nicole Gamos on December 8.
Authorities were initially looking into robbery as primary motive in the killing because some items were found missing from the house such as jewelry and cellphones.
There were no signs, however, of forced entry, prompting the relatives to suspect that the killer might have been familiar to the victims.
The family patriarch, Marlon Gamos, who arrived in the country from the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, said he last talked to his wife on December 7.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the deaths of the victims. —KG, GMA News
