Thieves stole the equipment of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) used to monitor Mayon Volcano, according to a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday.

Among the equipment stolen in Albay were a solar panel and two special batteries, said PHIVOLCS.

Due to the theft, monitoring of the area around the volcano will be affected.

The theft was only discovered last week.

PHIVOLCS appealed to the thieves to return the stolen equipment. —KG, GMA News
