Nueva Ecija gov's secretary shot dead in front of her children

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed the secretary of Nueva Ecija Governor Czarina Umali on Sunday night.

A report on Unang Balita identified the victim as Mary Anne Hernandez.

The report said Hernandez's husband, Carlito, was wounded in the attack that took place at around 6:30 p.m. at a gas station in Barangay Marcos, Talavera town.

It added that the Mary Anne and Carlito were in their vehicle, along with their two children and a relative, when the gun attack happened.

Police said that according to witnesses, the gunman was wearing a helmet. After shooting at the victims, the gunmen escaped on a motorcycle with another rider who was also wearing a helmet.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the shooters and determine the motive for the attack. —report from Bam Alegre/ALG, GMA News
