While most Filipino city folks  used  cameras, telescopes, and scientific instruments as they witnessed the phenomenal Super Blue blood Moon on Wednesday night, some Basilan residents went outside their homes with their kitchen utensils and made noise to invoke the spirits to reveal the veiled Moon.

Residents of Lamitan in Basilan were not able to witness the peak of the rare "super blue blood moon" event due to their location, but they welcome the lunar event in their traditional way.

Some of those who joined the noise-making frenzy said that they do so every time there is a lunar eclipse, in keeping with their Muslim ancestral tradition.

But some Muslim religious leaders (ulamas) told GMA News that the Holy Quran does not mention such a tradition.

They advised Islam believers to instead pray for their well-being during occurrences of such phenomenon.

PAGASA-DOST's astronomical calendar said that a Super Moon occurs when the Moon is at its closest distance to Earth. Meanwhile, a Blue Moon is the second full moon of a given month, which is a rare lunar event.

On the other hand, a Blood Moon usually occurs during a total lunar eclipse, wherein the color of the Moon turns to red or copper color.
