An infant who was buried alive in Goa, Camarines Sur was rescued by residents, GMA News' Mark Salazar reported on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.

The baby was covered with soil and placed inside a sack when she was found by a certain Allan Celso Jr.

She also has a cut on her left arm, which prompted Celso to take her to the hospital.

"'Yung dugo, hinanap ko 'yung ano... sinundan ko. 'Yung lupa parang bagong takip lang. Pag hukay namin, nakita namin bata," Celso said.

The baby, according to a doctor, could have been eight months old.

"Critical 'yan. Siguro eight months, more or less... Siguro tinatago 'yan nung nagbuntis," said Dr. Roger Anatacio.

Authorities have no leads yet as to the identity of the victim's mother.

But, according to some residents, it is possible that the mother is also a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan.

"May aso dito, wala naman kami nadinig na tumahol," Celso said.

"Unang beses po na nangyari sa barangay. Di po ito basta-basta napapasok. Alam niya po or kabisado niya po ang lugar na ito," added Marivic Bonganay, barangay chairperson.

The baby was brought to Bicol Medical Center and will be transferred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Meanwhile, charges will be filed against the mother once she is identified.

"Pag na-identify na 'yung suspek, mafa-file-an 'yun ng frustrated infanticide," said Senior Police Officer 2 Edmundo Trinidad. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BAP, GMA News
