A police officer who is absent without leave (AWOL), and a gatekeeper at a cockpit arena were shot dead by an unidentified man in Dauis town in Bohol on Thursday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Police Officer 2 Zandro Zamora, a resident of Barangay Taloto in Tagbilaran City, and Paterna Acuña.

Initial findings showed Zamora was on his way to a derby in New Dauis Cockpit Area in Purok 2 in Barangay Tatalon in Dauis when four men wearing bonnets blocked his way at the gate of the arena.

Zamora tried to evade the suspects but two men ran after him.

Acuña, meanwhile, tried to stop the suspects from entering by asking for payments for the entrance fee but he was also shot.

Meanwhile, the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) seized one small sachet suspected to contain shabu, P348 in cash, and a cellphone.

The relatives of Zamora said he received death threats.

Police are conducting an investigation to determine the motive of the killing. —Leo Udtohan/BAP/KG, GMA News
