DOH monitors 12 individuals who got rabies after eating dog meat

Twelve residents who ate dog meat are under observation in Zamboanga del Sur after they got infected with rabies, according to a report on News To Go on Tuesday.

The residents, who are from the municipality of Dumingag, ate the dog meat which was cooked by the owner of the dog, who also slaughtered the animal himself, the Department of Health Region IX said.

The owner reportedly did this after the dog bit him.

After 15 days, the owner passed away.

The DOH reminded the public not to eat dog meat.

Residents should also keep an eye out for stray dogs, especially since hot weather can affect them, the DOH added. —KG, GMA News
