Fake Boracay IDs confiscated from those attempting to enter island
A number of fake IDs were confiscated from some people attempting to go to Boracay after the island was closed, according to a report on Balitanghali on Friday by Mark Salazar.
"May mga na-confiscate tayong mga IDs na alam natin na peke kasi kino-compare natin 'yung mga IDs na original du'n sa peke. Kasi 'yung isa doon parang xinerox lang tapos pina-laminate," said Niven Maquirang, administrator of Caticlan Jetty Port in Aklan, gateway to the island destination.
Authorities implemented stricter measures in inspecting the IDs of those who want to go to the island after it was closed to non-residents on April 26 on orders of President Rodrigo Duterte.
IDs were previously issued to residents and legitimate workers.
The Caticlan Jetty Port is also preparing guidelines that would set the procedures for those who want to go to Boracay after it is opened to non-residents in six months' time.
One of the guidelines being drafted calls for the setting up of a one-stop shop for employers. Job hiring will be done at this one-stop shop so applicants need not go to the island for interviews. Successful applicants need to be given work contracts immediately so they can present these at the port to be allowed entry to the island.
Tourists will also have to present their hotel booking documents, based on the draft guidelines.
Authorities are also mulling having resorts put up booths at the port to process walk-in tourists who need to book a place to stay. —KG, GMA News
