The Zamboanga City Health Office started fogging operations in schools on Friday in an attempt to prevent students from catching the mosquito-borne dengue virus.

"We would want to cover all the schools so we have actually scheduled 'yung mga schools where we're going to do fumigation," Zamboanga City acting City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said in a report on Balitanghali.

The health office plans to fumigate all the classrooms and hallways of each school building, as well as the plants on school grounds.

Meanwhile, in Ormoc, Leyte, a cleaning operation for schools was kicked off with a motorcade as part of the Department of Education's 2018 Brigada Eskwela initiative.

Students in the town of Kananga were also prepared for the next school year with the distribution of a free sets of school supplies. —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
