Election officer shot dead in Batangas
An election officer in Bauan, Batangas, was shot dead Monday night while waiting for his jeepney ride home, GMA News' James Agustin reported on Unang Balita on Wednesday.
Noel Miralles, who was shot by two men on board a motorcycle, was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The victim's widow, Jocelyn, said her husband did not receive any threats prior to the shooting. She urged the police to probe the incident thoroughly as her husband didn't have enemies.
"Nawa'y mabigyan ng hustisya ang pagkamatay niya. Hindi namin alam talaga [kung bakit siya pinatay]," Jocelyn said.
The police has already formed a special task force that will probe the incident.
"Nawa'y kami'y matulungan ng mga kapulisan, ng mga kinauukulan, na maimbestigahan, masaliksik kung ano talaga ang pinag-ugatan [ng krimen]," Jocelyn said.
Senior Inspector Hazel Luma, public relations officer of Batangas Provincial Police, said the killing of Miralles may have been job-related although they are not discounting other possible motives.
"So far tinitignan natin 'yung kanyang trabaho bilang isa sa mga pangunahing leads natin although hindi natin nili-limit 'yung ibang mga anggulo," she said. —KBK, GMA News
