Resettlement area declared danger zone occupied by Kadamay
A resettlement area in Rodriguez, Rizal, was declared a danger zone six years ago, long before members of urban poor group Kadamay occupied it in December 2016, GMA News' Chino Gaston reported on Unang Balita on Tuesday.
The 1K2 area, which has over 1,200 housing units intended for informal settlers, was declared a danger zone in 2012 after it experienced severe flooding due to its proximity to a river.
Kadamay members who trooped to the area found unoccupied units, some of them damaged or have no roof or doors.
"Tiniyaga po namin para may matirahan kami," a resident said.
"Sa sobrang tagal ng paghihintay po namin sa proseso o sa pinapabalik-balik lang kami ng NHA (National Housing Authority) at ni mayor, nagkaisa po ang samahan po namin na ito ay pasukin," said a Kadamay member interviewed in the report.
The NHA said the area should not be occupied as long as it is considered a danger zone, which means current occupants of the units are living there illegally. —KBK, GMA News
