Corpse washes up in flooded Pampanga town

The continued flooding in Pampanga has made the lives of locals extremely difficult, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras" reported on Tuesday.

A state of calamity had been declared in Masantol as all its barangays were affected by the non-stop rain brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Local fish-farmers lost their catch after the flooding caused ponds to overflow, and the fish were swept away.

In Barangay Bebe Anac, a corpse was found floating in the flood water at 6:30 a.m.

The victim was reportedly swept down river from Calumpit, Bulacan.

Meanwhile, Macabebe's local government recommended the declaration of a state of calamity due to the flooding.

The town had been flooded for a week, with waters several feet deep in some barangays, such as Tete Sitio Nabong.

Residents trapped by the flooding had started to plead for assistance. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
