Habagat floods destroy bridges, cause landslides in provinces

Heavy rains over the weekend due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depression Josie damaged a few bridges, caused landslides, and forced residents to evacuate, according to a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday by Victoria Tulad.

Two bridges damaged in Occidental Mindoro were the Talusungan Bridge 3 in Abra de Ilog and the hanging footbridge in Sitio Fernandez, Magsaysay.

The local government of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro distributed relief goods to residents affected by the flooding.

Landslide

Meanwhile, on Halsema Highway in the Cordillera, authorities continued their clearing operations to rid the road of debris following a new landslide.

On Claver Road in Poblacion, Mountain Province, an overflowing canal spilled chocolate-colored water on the road, inconveniencing motorists.

Pangasinan

Although the rains have stopped, some 300 families have yet to head back to their homes as they are still housed at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.

Many of their homes were still flooded.

In some barangays, floodwater levels reached above a man's height.

The local government remained ready to assist the evacuees for their needs.

Sorsogon

In Sorsogon, bad weather has kept fishermen from going out to sea.

They moved their bancas to higher ground to avoid these being damaged by strong waves. —KG, GMA News
