Police name fatalities in Camarines Norte accident

The National Police in Camarines Norte on Monday identified the fatalities in the vehicular accident that killed nine people in Basud town. Inspector Antonio Lacson, Basud police chief, identified the fatalities as Gracita Clotario, 46; Mary Rose Remo, 14; Estrella Odi, 53; Anita Vibal, 50; Wilson Medina, 13; Carmela Babagay, 14; Leonel Abelado, 14; Ryan Babagay, 14; and Estrella Ebonia, 56. At least nine other passengers were seriously hurt and were undergoing treatment at the provincial hospital in Daet and the Leon Hernandez Hospital in the same city. Camarines Sur Gov. Jesus Typoco said the accident was caused by heavy rains and wind that caused an acasia tree to fall on a bus while it was negotiating the Maharlika Highway to Daet from Naga City. The accident occurred about 11 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Laniton, Basud town. The accident resulted in heavy traffic along Maharlika Highway. - Michael Jaucian, GMANews.TV
