Chinese tourist drowns in Palawan beach

A dip in a beach in El Nido, Palawan proved fatal for a tourist Chinese woman after a big wave and strong sea current swept her away while swimming in Nacpan Beach.

RGMA-Palawan's Rod Evangelista in a report on Dobol B sa News TV on Friday morning identified the victim as Sun Xuiyan, 48, who drowned early afternoon on Thursday.

Citing initial police information, Evangelista said that Sun was swimming with her Australian boyfriend at about 1:30 p.m. when a big wave and strong water current swept her to a deep portion of the water.

She was able to call for help, but she drowned before the lifeguard could save her.

Rescue personnel tried to revive her but failed.   

Police El Nido are now investigating if the beach resort has culpability over the incident.  —LBG, GMA News
