MAYOR BUQUING KILLED IN BANGAR SHOOTING

Vice Mayor Buquing had nonlethal injuries, was out of danger – PNP

While Sudipen-La Union Mayor Alexander Buquing and two others were killed during a Monday evening shooting in Bangar town, the mayor's wife, Vice Mayor Wendy Joy Buquing, survived the attack, suffering only a few nonlethal injuries, Bangar town's police chief told GMA 7 late night news program "Saksi".

Chief Inspector Cirilo Butigan Jr. explained that Vice-Mayor Buquing was recovering at a San Fernando-La Union hospital, where she was being treated for a glancing bullet-wound to the head and an injury on her left hand's middle finger.

"Bale, safe na po siya," Butigan explained.

The police commander added that, during the shooting, the Buquing couple were at the back seat of their vehicle, and Mayor Buquing had used his body to sheild his wife from the attack.

Also killed during the attack was driver Boni Depdepen and police protection officer PO2 Rolando Juanbe.

While they knew that the shooters where on a white pick-up truck, Butigan admitted that they did not have the truck's license plate.

And while the motive for the shooting remained unclear, Mayor Buquing was not on President Rodrigo Duterte's narco-list.

The president's list of alleged drug suspects included thousands of government officials, including congressmen, governors, mayors, and barangay captains. — DVM, GMA News
