Three inmates from Cavite detention facilities had died in a span of nine days due to congestion, and another one has been hospitalized with his body covered with wounds.

A report by  Tina Panganiban-Perez aired over “24 Oras,” said that inmate Joseph Pasalo at Dasmariñas City, Cavite Police Station died last Thursday due to apparent suffocation. He was rushed to the hospital but did not make it.

Pasalo's death happened just nine days after the cramped condition at the General Trias, Cavite Police Station resulted in the deaths of inmates Manny Libres and Christian Orbita last October 18.

Another inmate in the same Cavite police facility has been hospitalized due to wounds all over his body and bruises on his legs.

The inmate's stepchild, who requested anonymity, told GMA News that their stepfather was arrested in a recent buy-bust operation and later they were informed they needed to be at the hospital to see him.

A medical certificate indicates that the inmate is suffering from sepsis secondary to multiple skin infection, acute kidney injury, urinary tract infection, and pneumonitis due to jail congestion.

Superintendent Nerwin Ricohermo, Dasmariñas City Police Station chief, admitted that the congestion problem is taking its toll on inmates' health.

“Na-acquire niya yung sakit dahil na rin siguro sa siksikan doon,” Ricohermo said. —Llanesca T. Panti/LBG, GMA News
