A former mayor of Lucban, Quezon has been indicted for graft at the Sandiganbayan for allegedly appointing his sister to two posts at the municipal hall in 2014 despite her not being qualified for the post.

The Office of the Ombudsman filed one count of violation of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act against former Mayor Celso Olivier Dator.

Ombudsman Samuel Martires signed the charge sheet on October 11.

The case stemmed from Dator's "willful and unlawful" hiring of his sibling, Maria Lyncelle Macandile, as chief administrative officer and municipal administrator despite her failure to meet the qualifications set under the Local Government Code.

The Ombudsman said this offense also led to a violation of the Civil Service Law, therefore leading to the damage and prejudice of public interest and the government as a whole.

A bail bond of P30,000 has been recommended in the case of Dator. —KG, GMA News
