6 killed in Laguna multiple-vehicle crash

Six victims were killed and 14 were injured in a 17-vehicle crash on Saturday night in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

Police Superintendent Eugene Orate, Sta. Rosa chief of police, said the incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night at the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road in Barangay Sto. Domingo when a 14-wheeler trailer truck, coming from Tagaytay City and carrying steel, lost control.

The truck then bumped 16 vehicles, two motorcycles and one tricycle then hit a bakery and a house.

The victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Among the fatalities was a mother and her two children aged one and two, who were staying at the boarding house.

Also killed were the two passengers of the tricycle and one worker at the bakery.

Orate said a manhunt has been launched for the trailer driver who managed to escape after the incident.

Witnesses said the driver jumped out of the trailer truck before it hit the bakery and the house.

Orate said they have a person of interest already as they were able to recover an ID of the driver inside the vehicle.

Also recovered inside the trailer truck was the official receipt and certificate of registration of the vehicle. —Cecille Villarosa/DVM/KG, GMA News
