SUV crashes into electric post, knocks out power in Pangasinan

A sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed into an electric post in San Carlos City, Pangasinan causing power outage in at least seven towns.

According to a report by Joanne Ponsoy in “24 Oras”, the driver of the SUV overtook a bus but lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the post at Sitio Casbog, Barangay Coliling.

"Hindi na niya nakontrol ang manibela, bumangga sa poste ng Cenpelco, poste ng PLDT at sa bakod ng isang bahay doon,” Police Senior Inspector George Bacani of San Carlos City police station said.

Rodrigo Corpuz, general manager of Cenpelco, the local power supplier, said, "Natumba po ito (poste) dahil nakadugtong ito sa NGCP (National Grid Corporation of the Philippines) line from Labrador, kaya nag-trip po 'yung breaker... 'yung Labrador kaya nawalan ng ilaw yong pitong bayan at San Carlos City."

Electricity was restored after 15 minutes except in the town of Malasiqui, which had power supply after six hours when the post was replaced.

Roger dela Cruz, the SUV driver, did not suffer injury.  Bacani said Dela Cruz will shoulder the expenses of the repairs. —Llanesca Panti/ LDF, GMA News
